The blaze was brought under control at about 06h00 this morning. Due to sterling work from the fire fighters involved.
The highway is still closed in both directions due to safety reasons, as the integrity of the road and overhead bridge needs to be checked, due to the heat caused by the massive fire.
Traffic is still diverted via the M7 on the south bound line and via the M1 and M4 on the north bound lanes, of the N2. This has resulted in traffic congestion in large areas south of Durban this morning. Motorists are asked to please not enter an intersection unless they know they can get across before the robot changes, to avoid “grid locking”
Paramedics have treated two men at the scene, who are believed to be the truck drivers, for minor injuries and after being examined by paramedics they decided they did not wish to be taken to hospital.
We work like to thank all the emergency services involved to the incident for their hard work and dedication
