Introducing Two New Renault Clio Models

Priced right and set to boost an already powerful B-segment performance

The new generation Clio has made remarkable inroads into South Africa’s fiercely competitive B-segment and following the launch of New Clio 4 in April 2013, has been consistently placed amongst the top five performers in its class.

The arrival of the New Renault Clio Expression 88kW Turbo EDC and New Renault Clio Blaze 66kW Turbo Limited Edition, two thrilling new additions to the Clio line-up, is sure to rally the model’s loyal fan base and also find favour with a new generation of motoring enthusiasts.

Renault Clio launched at the 1990 Paris Motor Show and within a matter of years had become one of the marque’s quintessential top-selling models worldwide. Notching up its first accolade as European Car of the Year in 1991, awards – both local and international – have kept on coming with Clio’s most recent being its nomination as a Top 9 finalist in the WesBank/South African Guild of Motoring Journalists 2014 Car of the Year Awards.

Renault Clio has enjoyed unprecedented success in South Africa since its arrival here in 1999. With the launch of each subsequent generation of model or model refresh in the 15 years since, Clio’s popularity and public appeal has continued to soar.

In 2013, the seductive and stylish New Renault Clio 4 was described as “the heir to one of the marque’s richest legacies” providing clear illustration of its New Design Identity. With front-end styling featuring a bolder version of its trademark diamond-shaped logo, an all-new engine and way ahead of its class rivals in terms of innovation and on-board technologies, with Clio 4, the motor manufacturer stated its intention to re-establish the model as one of the top performers in the B-segment.

With sales to date totalling 13 000 plus units, of which approximately 90% were private sales.  Clio has put up a singular performance and earned its stripes.

According to Wayne van der Merwe, senior product manager at Renault SA, there has been an increase in Clio sales in the car hire sector with rental companies responding positively and welcoming the trendy hatchback into their fleets.

“Clio’s build quality and overall efficiency have proven to be two strong drivers in the rental sector and for many car rental customers, it’s become the model of choice in its category.”

Safety for All

Safety for all is the brand’s global dictate and its responsible vision involves providing the most modern and effective passive and active safety systems across-the-board in its vehicles – irrespective of segment, equipment level or pricing.

Clio was the first car in its class to obtain a four-star EuroNCAP crash test rating with the Clio 2 model back in 2000. Thereafter Clio 3 became the first car in the AB Segment to secure the maximum EuroNCAP score of five stars. Clio 4 then continued the safety achievements of predecessor models securing another five-star crash test rating involving even more stringent requirements

With an unparalleled level of on-board safety and protection features and equipment as standard across the entire range, Clio ranks as one of the safest cars in South Africa.

New 88kw Turbo Engine with EDC: Clio Expression

New Clio Expression is powered by Renault’s Formula 1-inpsired 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder 88kW Turbo engine.  Together with the much-anticipated six-speed, Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) auto gearbox, it delivers an excellent, fuel-efficient drive together with seamless, smooth gear changes.

With maximum output of 88kW @ 4 900rpm and peak torque of 190Nm @ 2 000rpm, the Clio Expression with EDC goes from 0 to 100kms in just 9.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 199kph. At 5.2 litres/100km (in combined cycle NEDC), fuel consumption is impressive while CO² emissions are a low 120g/km.

This is a low capacity engine that delivers amazing power and torque and generates proven and unparalleled flexibility which drivers of the New Clio Expression will soon be able to attest to.

Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) Transmission

The Renault-developed EDC is a double clutch, six-speed automatic gearbox, a combination of two parallel half gearboxes which work closely together. The engine torque is transmitted to each half gearbox via a specific clutch with the ideal gear selected by the relevant clutch by means of an electronic control unit. As such, the EDC combines the comfort of an auto transmission with the responsiveness and frugality of a manual gearbox.

Super convenient and affording the Clio driver increased efficiency, the shifting (manual mode) has been reversed and is sporty-orientated: push forward to downshift and pull to upshift. With the EDC, driving a Clio has never been easier. Or more fun!

New Clio Blaze Limited Edition:  66kw Turbo Engine

That access to highly efficient and technologically-advanced engines is no longer the preserve of more expensive vehicles is illustrated by the marque’s new generation 66kW Turbo petrol engine. The powerhouse under the bonnet of its New Clio Blaze Limited Edition model, it provides a proven and powerful edge.

The engine allows energetic acceleration from low speeds thus avoiding excessively frequent gear changes. Accelerating from 0 to 100kph in 12.2 seconds, Clio Blaze’s top speed is 182kph. At an almost unbelievable 4.5 litres/100km (in combined cycle NEDC), New Clio Blaze boasts best-in-class fuel consumption and low CO² emissions (105g/km).

Seductive Styling by Design: Inside And Out

With its sensuous curves and expressive front-end complemented by sporty rear shoulders, seduction has taken shape in these two New Renault Clio models which ooze desire in every detail inside and out.

With a beautifully designed, refined yet functional interior which is offset by the use of quality chrome and black gloss materials, to make life easier than ever, New Clio comes filled to the brim with smart technology, creature comforts and fitments as standard.

The sleek, aeroplane wing-styled dashboard with its central control panel, digital speedometer for ease of readability, height-adjustable driver’s seat (70mm range), height and reach-adjustable steering column have all been put into play to make life on the road an absolute breeze.

The New Renault Clio Expression 88kW Turbo EDC 5-door comes standard with a 7” Touch screen multimedia system with on-board navigation, leather steering wheel and gear lever, manual air con, 16” alloy wheels and front fog lights.
