A 31-year-old suspect was arrested for the alleged theft out of motor vehicle on Thursday, 26 November 2015 at about 16:00 in Schweizer-Reneke.
It is alleged that the vehicle owner parked her vehicle and went into the shop. She did not notice that there was a suspect who blocked her vehicle from locking with a device that is used to block the vehicles from locking.
The security guards at the shop noticed the incident and notified the owner. The suspect allegedly got into the car and closed himself inside with the intention to steal. On arrival at the scene, the vehicle owner locked her vehicle from outside and the suspect was inside the vehicle. Police were summoned to the scene and the suspect was arrested.
He will appear on Monday, 30 November in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court. The police appeal to vehicle users to be cautious at all times when embarking from their vehicles and always ensure that their vehicles are properly locked.
Investigations continue.
