(Paris, 25 January 2016) The International Union of Railways (UIC), the worldwide association representing the railway sector with 240 members from 95 countries, is organising the fifth edition of the Global Rail Freight Conference (GRFC) in Rotterdam from 22 – 24 June 2016. The Global Rail Freight Conferences are leading events on the international agenda of Rail Freight and Logistics and previous editions have been successfully organised in Delhi, St Petersburg, Tangier and Vienna.
The main theme of the Conference this year is “Shaping together the business of the future”.
To address the main conference topic, a series of panel discussions will be organized around the following themes:
-“From Shanghai to Rotterdam: the landbridge concept 10 years on”
– “Strategies to deliver opportunities and enhance effectiveness”
– “Rail Freight 4.0: innovation and digitalization for global solutions”
-“The workforce of the future: digital skills and human capital”
The Conference, held under the Patronage of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment and supported by international organisations such as OTIF, will bring together a host of high-level speakers representing the political and economic sectors, international institutions, and all actors of the logistics chain, among them railways, ports and shipping lines, multi-modal operators, business and trade.
The 2016 edition of the GRFC will be organised in co-operation with the TEN-T Days 2016 of the European Commission and the European Rail Freight Corridor event organised by the Dutch Presidency of the European Union. The GRFC as a global event will offer a natural continuation to the discussions on European corridors and multimodality and move them to a worldwide context where innovation and digitalisation are at the heart of the success of rail freight.
The series of events will also provide a unique opportunity for networking and promotional activities as a professional exhibition will run all week.

The 5th UIC Global Rail Freight Conference is organised for UIC by Europoint (the Netherlands) and the venue for the conference and the exhibition is the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam.
