One killed and two injured in Middelburg collision
A man was killed and two others injured last night after two vehicles collided head-on on the R555, 10km outside of Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
When ER24 paramedics, along with various services, arrived on the scene, they found that a bakkie and light motor vehicle had collided head-on and lay wrecked on the side of the road.
Two male occupants lay inside the light motor vehicle while a third male lay inside the bakkie.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the passenger of the light motor vehicle had unfortunately sustained fatal injuries in the collision.
Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.
The driver of the bakkie was assessed and found to have sustained only moderate injuries while the driver of the light motor vehicle was found to have sustained critical injuries. The critically injured patient also lay trapped inside his vehicle.
Rescue services worked quickly to free the trapped patient using the jaws-of-life equipment.
Once freed, paramedics treated both patients and thereafter transported them to Middelburg Hospital for urgent treatment.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
