Two die after vehicle plunges into river in Pietermaritzburg
Two people died after the vehicle they were in rolled, went down an embankment and into a river in Pietermaritzburg this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the vehicle on its roof and submerged in the water in the Alexandra Park area.
A bystander helped a paramedic remove the driver from the vehicle.
Upon assessment of the man believed to be in his 20s it was found that he showed no signs of life. Paramedics began resuscitation and transported him to hospital.
However despite all efforts to save him he sadly died in hospital.
Sadly there was nothing that could be done for a woman who was also found in the vehicle. Search and Rescue removed her body from the vehicle.
Two other women managed to get out of the vehicle. They were transported to hospital for further assessment.
The exact cause of the incident is unknown. Authorities were on scene.
