Earlier Thursday afternoon EMER-G-MED’s RV9, M08 as well as other services responded to reports of a serious multi-vehicle collision on the M2 East near Cleveland, in Johannesburg’s East Rand.
On arrival paramedics found that two trucks as well as a number of light moto-vehicles had been involved in the collision.
One of the truck drivers was heavily entrapped within his vehicle. The “jaws of life” had to be used to free the driver’s legs while paramedic began treatment.
Once extricated the driver was stabilised and transported to a specialist trauma hospital by another private ambulance service with one of EMER-G-MED’s Advanced Life Support Paramedics on-board.
Approximately 3 other people sustained minor to moderate injuries and were also transported to various nearby hospitals for further care.
The cause of the collision is unclear, and will be investigated by the Johannesburg Metro Police Department.
