The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has learnt with shock that National Freedom Party (NFP) councelor in uMsinga, Miss Nompumelelo Zondi (45), has been found dead near her vehicle.
Mchunu said these were disturbing news as they came when the province was preparing itself for the Local Government Elections.
The MEC has noted that the full details of this incident was not yet available but has called on the people in uMsinga to observe restraint and work with the police to find out what exactly happened.
Police have opened a case of murder at Nhlanhleni Police Station.No arrest has yet been made.
Mchunu has since directed the police to work around the clock to find out what exactly happened here.
“I would like to urge the community of uMsinga and surroundings to work very close with the police so that those responsible for this could be quickly apprehended.”
“We are confident that the police will quickly get to the bottom of this and make the necessary arrests,” said Mchunu.
Mchunu has also sent his deepest condolences to Zondi family and to the NFP members.
He has appealed to those who may have information about the incident to come forth and hand it over to the police so that those responsible can face the full might of the law.
