Scene of fatal crash on the R512 in Renosterspruit, towards Hartebeestpoort.
Two people have been declared dead and approximately 16 people have been injured after a taxi and a truck on the R512 in Renosterspruit, towards Hartebeestpoort.
EMER-G-MED’s RV6, M07, A01 and A02 as well as other services responded to the scene, just after 2pm this afternoon.
Paramedics arrived to find a tipper truck carrying sand as well as the badly damaged, taxi lying on it’s side, halfway down an embankment. Two passengers, one of which was a child, were sadly found deceased. Three patients were in a critical condition and approximately 13 others sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics immeadiately began to stabilise the critically injured patients, including a 5 year-old child who sustained a serious head-injury. Advanced Life Support care was initiated while the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter was called in to airlift the critical child to a Johannesburg specialist trauma hospital for urgent medical care.
A total of 2 patients were airlifted, while the remaining patients were stabilised on-scene before being transported by road to various nearby hospitals
The cause of the collision is unclear, but it was reported by eye-witnesses that the taxi had been performing a U-turn when the collision occured. Local authorities were on-scene to conduct a full investigation into the exact events.
