Vehicle impounded and suspect arrested in possession of R2m of illegal abalone
Tuesday, 5 April 2016 just before 11:00, Hawks members arrested a 37-year-old suspect in Bothasig on the corners of Giel Basson Drive and Bosmansdam Road for possession of illegal abalone.
The members stopped and searched a Ford Ranger LDV, loaded with suspicious boxes, which led to the discovery of several bags of abalone valued at around R2 million.
The vehicle has been impounded.
The suspect is due to appear at Goodwood Magistrate court today, facing charges relating to contravention of living marine species.
