As part of the 5th annual ATNS AVI AFRIQUE Africa Aviation Innovation Summit, the AVI Awards seek to recognise individuals who are contributing to innovating and elevating aviation through designs and prototypes that enhance the capabilities of our aviation industry. These Awards serves as a platform to assist innovators in turning their innovations into commercially-viable products or services.
“We want to create a pipeline of relevant aviation-related innovation ideas that seek to address the challenges faced by the aviation industry and also look at improving on existing aviation technologies, services and products” says ATNS CEO, Thabani Mthiyane. He added that the ATNS-TIA partnership is looking for scientists, researchers, professionals, emerging entrepreneurs, journalists, university students and high school learners “to show us just what it takes to be a master innovator”.
The Technology Innovation Agency was extremely privileged and proud to be a partner at the inaugural AVI Awards in 2015. TIA CEO, Barlow Manilal says the event exemplified the abundance of talent that we have within the country but also highlighted the challenging journey of taking products from idea stage to commercialisation. “TIA is once again delighted to partner with ATNS in supporting and showcasing the capacity and capability of innovators and entrepreneurs in South Africa”.
Manilal concluded by stating “last year’s first prize winner, FlyH2 and their hydrogen powered unmanned fixed-wing aircraft came from within the TIA investment portfolio, we trust that similar quality applicants will be provided a platform at the 2016 awards”.
