Operation Vulindlela focuses on taxi violnece in Mthatha

Operation Vulindlela focusing on the ongoing taxi violence in the Mthatha and surrounding areas is yielding results. The operation started during the early hours of yesterday morning, 18 August 2016 at about 02:30, following the meeting held at Mthatha with SAPS Management, Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison and Taxi Industry Presidents and Chairpersons of various associations in and around Mthatha on 11 August 2016.

Six (06) people were arrested for various crimes including possession of unlicensed firearms, dagga and mandrax.

Two unlicensed firearms were recovered and traffic fines to the value of R23 500 were handed to drivers for various traffic offences. Two (2) pallet guns, one (1) AK 47 Rifle, four (4) z88 pistol, three (3) knives and a substantial amount of Dagga and Mandrax tablets were confiscated.

“Successes achieved during operations are a step closer to ridding our communities of crime. High police visibility is achieved through these operations which makes our community members feel safe,” said Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Liziwe Ntshinga. ‪#‎OpVulindlela‬
