Bakkie slams into tree killing one, injuring another.
One man has been killed and another seriously injured this morning after a bakkie crashed into a tree on Houtkop Road in Vereeniging.
ER24 paramedics were called to the scene by another service that had requested backup.
Upon arrival, paramedics found a single-cab bakkie up against a large tree. A man, believed to be in his 50s, was found lying trapped in the driver’s seat while another man, believed to be in his 40s, was found lying in the front of the vehicle.
Paramedics assessed both men and found that the driver had sustained numerous fatal injuries and showed no signs of life.
Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.
The man lying outside the vehicle was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a serious condition.
ER24 paramedics treated the man and provided him with serveral advanced life support interventions in an effort to stabilise his vital signs.
Once stabilised, the patient was transported under advanced life support supervision to Sebokeng Hospital for urgent treatment.
Rescue services had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the deceased from the vehicle.
It is understood that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to smash into the tree and eject the one passenger.
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
