PRETORIA, South Africa, 4 May 2017 – Ford sales for April 2017 proved robust in challenging trading conditions, attributed to a large number of public holidays and several long weekends.
A total of 4 422 Ford vehicles were sold in South Africa during April, giving the brand 12.6%* market share. It also emerged as one of the top exporters for the month, with 4 618 vehicles exported to markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“The new vehicle market took a knock due to the significantly reduced number of selling days in April this year, with passenger and light commercial vehicle sales down more than 13% compared to April 2016,” said Neale Hill, Director of Marketing, Sales and Service for Ford Motor Company Sub-Saharan Africa Region.
“All things considered, we can be satisfied with our sales results, with the Ford Ranger returning to the top of the charts as the best-selling vehicle in South Africa during April,” Hill added. “Year-to-date, the EcoSport remains the leading contender in the compact SUV segment, and the Mustang continues as the dominant player in the sports car category.”
Light Commercial Vehicles
The Ford Ranger reclaimed its top spot on the sales charts for the second time this year, after leading the sales in January 2017. It emerged as the best-selling vehicle overall and in the highly competitive light commercial vehicle segment with total sales of 1 982 units for April.
The Ranger was also one of the top exports for the month on 4 618 units – which defied the 25.5% overall decline in export volumes for April 2017 compared to the same month last year.
Passenger Cars
In the passenger car market, the EcoSport retained its unrivalled leadership in the compact SUV segment for the month and year-to-date, recording 543 sales in April. The Mustang followed the same trend with 41 vehicles delivered to proud new owners.
