Two suspects were arrested and a large quantity of stolen copper was recovered by members of Reaction Unit South Africa in Phoenix – KZN last night (Sunday).
At approximately 23:10 Reaction Officers were dispatched to a railway line after receiving a tip off that that two suspects were stealing several lengths of copper tubing. Officers proceeded to the location and upon arrival noticed the two suspects fleeing with the stolen goods.
A lengthy chase ensued resulting in both suspects being apprehended and the stolen goods recovered. During an interview both suspects admitted to making a living off cable theft. The stolen goods were sold to scrap metal dealers and the proceeds of the sale is used to support their drug habit.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and handed over to authorities for further investigation.
