Five people were injured this afternoon, one of them critically, when two light motor vehicles collided head-on at the Houtkop and Frikkie Meyer Road intersection in Vanderbijlpark.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find both the wrecked vehicles in the middle of the intersection. Three women were found seated on the pavement while a four was found in the rear of one of the vehicles. A man was found lying in the passenger seat of the second vehicle.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the man was in a critical condition while the four women had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
The patients were treated for their injuries and the critically injured man provided with advanced life support interventions. Shortly after treatment, the critically injured man was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to Mediclinic Sandton for further treatment. The four women were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
