Speedstars returns to TV Screens…With Road Safety and Driver Education!!
The wait is finally over as the eagerly anticipated third season of the popular reality television series, Speed Stars is back on Ignition, DSTV 189. The new season launches off the line on Saturday 7th October at 19:00 and the chequered flags drops on the nine part series on the 8th December.
And our first episode is a real star studded show as we bring back some of our fastest Stars from Season One and Two to contestant just two Wild Card slots in the new season. Catch Rob Forbes, Jack Parow, Katlego Maboe, Richard Stirton, Reuben Riffel and Jason Goliath as they pull out all the stops to book their spot on track and another shot at being crowned SA’s Speediest Star.
And we introduce you to two new stars as we track our search for public talent in this episode. After the success of last seasons public search, Speed Stars expanded on the format to give more motorists without prior racing experience the chance to qualify for the show. And the response was overwhelming – more than 800 hopefuls strapped themselves into our VW Up’s to tackle the technical gymkhana courses set up at the Extreme Festival at Zwartkops, Festival of Motoring at Kyalami, Hi-Q Greenacres and Tavcor Volkswagen in Port Elizabeth, Barons Volkswagen Cape Town and Alpine Volkswagen Pinetown.
SPEED STARS – THE SHOW
Sponsored by Volkswagen Driving Academy and Goodyear, this season once again invites SA’s famous faces to show us their race faces in a bid to claim the title of SA’s Speediest Star. With guests paired up in each episode, they take to Zwartkops Raceway in our race-ready VW Polo’s to battle it out for top honours, with their fastest lap time going up on the Speed Stars Leaderboard. In a Speed Stars first, our eight fastest stars at the end of the season will contest an actual race in our season finale as part of the final round of the Extreme Series at Zwartkops Raceway on the 25th November.
But Speed Stars isn’t only about teaching our stars how to go fast, Road Safety and Driver Education form an important part of the entire Speed Stars experience. Each episode has a Safety Lesson, driving home important tyre, road and driver safety tips and advice. Not only are we educating and improving the driving abilities and awareness of our stars but importantly, also those of our viewers.
Each episode also sees our celebrity guests competing in our popular Charity Challenge, with the winning team donating R2500-00 each week to charity.
