Transport MEC in KZN commend life sentences for killers of Madadeni taxi boss
The MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr. Mxolisi Kaunda, has commended the Madadeni Magistrates Court for the successful life sentence convictions of two killers of a Newcastle taxi operator.
The court sentenced to life imprisonment Lindokuhle Mhlongo (31) and Ndawoyakhe Shabalala (47) after convicting them for the 2013 murder of Siyabonga Nkabinde (38). Nkabinde was fatally shot while with a relative on 28 November 2013, in a morning ambush that took place at Section 6, near the taxi rank. The case was transferred from the Madadeni Police Station to the Provincial Taxi Task Team (PTTT) for investigation.
Kaunda has commended the work of the police. He said:
“We commend the work of the police in this murder case (of a taxi operator, Siyabonga Nkabinde). It should send a strong message to all killers, but especially those involved in the destabilization of the taxi industry in the province. It is also clear that the determination and commitment of the detectives, working closely to present evidence to the prosecution team, yields a successful conviction. It is what we need from the Criminal Justice System in our province, which is tarnished by the spate of politically-related, taxi-related, and other types of murders. Finally, we want to assure all public transport users that we will not rest until the industry is safe for everyone.”
