A 32-year-old man shot and killed on Hazelmere Road in Verulam.
A 32 year old man was shot and killed on Hazelmere Road in Verulam last night.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to the scene after receiving a call from a member of public reporting shots being fired in the area. Upon arrival the body of the victim was found lying in a bush next to the road. Paramedics were called to the scene and established that the deceased was shot once in the pelvis.
It is alleged that the deceased had left his home to visit his girlfriend at a nearby informal settlement when he was accosted by the suspect. An argument broke out between the two when the suspect drew a firearm and shot him. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
The motive for the murder has not been established at this stage.
