Fatal light aircraft crash wreckage found five nautical miles north of Oudtshoorn
Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa. The Search and Rescue for a Cessna C210 aircraft that was reported missing on Saturday afternoon between Mossel Bay and Graaff-Reinet, was activated at approximately 16:00 local time on the same day, at O.R.Tambo International airport.
The aircraft was reportedly carrying two occupants.
A Joint Operations Centre (JOC) was established at Oudtshoorn Airfield and an aerial search operation was conducted at first light yesterday (Sunday) morning. The wreckage was found five nautical miles north of Oudtshoorn, and unfortunately no survivors could be accounted for.
The Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC) would like to thank and acknowledge all those who selflessly participated in the success of the operation: The South African Police Services, SA Red Cross Air Mercy Service, Eden Metro Rescue EMS, Oudtshoorn Airfield, South African Air Force 15 Squadron, Mountain Club of South Africa (Port Elizabeth and Plettenberg Bay), ATNS, and all local voluntary participants.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the cause of the crash.
