Abarth is Official Sponsor and Official Car Supplier to the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team for the fourth year in succession

The association between Abarth and the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team continues: the Scorpion Brand partners the team competing in the FIM 2018 MotoGP World Championship

This year the front of the fairing of the two Yamaha YZR-M1 2018 bikes again carries the Scorpion logo, synonymous with racing and the symbol of a legacy of victories and passions that gave birth to one of the great phenomena of modern motorsports. The partnership between Abarth and Yamaha is founded on shared values such as a passion for sport, supreme performance and challenges and the drive to excel in motorsports. On 18 March Losail will host the first of the 19 events in the championship, which will end in Valencia (Spain) on 18 November.

Luca Napolitano, Head of EMEA Fiat and Abarth Brand, expresses his pride in Abarth’s partnership and the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team as follows: “For all of us, this relationship means a great deal more than any ordinary sponsorship. For Abarth and Yamaha, races are important to gain experience to be transferred to standard production, for ever-finer engineering and excellent quality. What’s more, our two brands highly value teamwork and passion, both central to sport but also fundamental in everyday life and work. The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team’s many successes over these years underline the strength of this partnership.”

Abarth and Yamaha are brought together by a shared continual search for leading-edge performances and technological innovation, which extends beyond the world of racing and circuits, and has given us thrilling cars such as the Abarth 595 Yamaha Factory Racing Edition and the breath-taking Abarth 695 biposto Yamaha Factory Racing Edition, with a 142 kW engine and a special dark blue and white livery. The latest in the series is the limited edition Abarth 695 XSR Yamaha, which shares some stylistic details, highlighted by the lavish use of carbon fiber components, with the Yamaha XSR 900 Abarth, a lightweight, high-performance café racer, the first motorcycle to originate from the partnership between the two brands.

The Abarth range continues to expand: it’s offering of exclusive sporty products has lately been extended with the new Abarth 124 GT, presented at the recent Geneva International Motor Show. The Abarth 124 GT is a new special series with a dual personality, capable of delivering the thrills of a genuine roadster with all the style of a coupé, thanks to the new safe, lightweight, high-tech carbon fiber hardtop, the only one of its kind on the automotive market. The new carbon hardtop weighs just 16 kg and helps to improve the car’s overall torsional rigidity and compactness, as well as providing thermal and sound insulation and better rear visibility.

Keeping the brand’s tradition very much alive, the Abarth 124 GT makes the ordinary extraordinary, with all the dynamism and driving pleasure of the cars developed by the Abarth Racing Team. The new special series is equipped with a powerful, reliable four-cylinder Multi Air 1.4 liter turbo engine, producing 127 kW and 250 Nm of torque, for a top speed of 232 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is available with a six-speed manual or automatic Sports Sequential Esseesse gearbox. Its standard outfit also comprises the Monza Record exhaust with dual mode system, and amazingly lightweight 17″ OZ alloy wheels, weighing about 3 kilograms less than the standard type.
