ATNS Hosts Spectrum Conference
Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Limited, in conjunction with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and supported by the Department of Transport, is hosting the ICAO AFI Regional Preparatory Group (RPG) and Frequency Spectrum Management Panel (FSMP) Conference near OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.
The Conference, which ends on 13th September 2018, is currently underway.
Established in 2015, The Frequency Spectrum Management Panel manages aeronautical frequency spectrum to ensure adequate access to the finite and limited frequency spectrum resource, for the provision of aeronautical Communication, Navigation and Surveillance services (CNS) in an efficient and safe manner.
South Africa, as one of the ICAO states and ATNS, as an Air Navigation Service Provider are registered members of the ICAO FSMP, with the rights to vote at the ICAO Air Navigation Council (ANC).
“With delegates coming from all over the world, ATNS sees this as an opportunity to connect, network and work towards one of our main strategic pillars – collaboration,” said Thabani Mthiyane, ATNS CEO.
ICAO RPG and FSMP (Spectrum) meetings are held every year in a four-year cycle of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The FSMP is also responsible for developing and maintaining the ICAO Spectrum Strategy and ICAO Policy on Radio Frequency Spectrum, necessary to enable the advancement of technological developments and innovation, for aviation to efficiently manage the finite and limited frequency spectrum resource.
