MEC Kaunda opens Gungununu river bridge and hands over Umzimkhulu public transport facility to contractors
The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Mxolisi Kaunda officially handed over multi-million Rand public transport infrastructure in uMzimkhulu.
The infrastructure includes the building of a public transport intermodal facility (bus and taxi rank) and the opening of the Gungununu River Bridge. The R82 million transport intermodal facility will also provide empowerment opportunities through awarding of contracts to emerging SMME’s, jobs and training to the youth.
The R26 million Gungununu River Vehicle Bridge links Kayeka, Mtantshahlolo, Goso, Elukhasini and Elucingweni communities. It will also provide access to schools and clinics in the area.
