Kamhlushwa Police station now officially opened
Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Commissioner General Khehla Sitole have today officially opened the Kamhlushwa Police Station. After the opening, community members expressed their happiness saying this will translate into crime decreasing in their community.
The opening of the Police Station is seen as a step in the right direction to realize the National Development Plan, also known as Vision 2030, to ensure that by 2030, people in South Africa are and feel safe. Thus, the SAPS is currently on a journey towards a safer South Africa for all.
The Police Station has been operation since 1 August 2017. It serves a population of well over 58 000 (according to Statistics South Africa population figures in the area). Minister Cele encouraged police officers at the station to serve the community well and said he doesn’t want to hear the community contacting to complaining about ill-treatment from the station. Rather, said the Minister, he only wants to hear a good report from community members about how well the station is doing. The Minister said so immediately after a symbolic opening of the station where he and General Sitole unveiled the Police Station plaque and cut the ribbon.
The Minister and the National Commissioner then took a tour of the station as they continued to engage with police officers at the station.
The opening of the police station is coinciding with the commemoration of #NationalPoliceDay. National Police Day is celebrated annually to pay homage to police officers who serve the country and sometimes putting their lives in the firing line.
Currently, police officers in Mbombela Stadium are busy participating in various sporting codes games to mark this day. The Minister and the National Commissioner, together with their entourage, will be joining in on the festivities at the stadium later on today. For now though, they will be making their way to a local stadium to for a community engagement to show that Police management do listen to the people.
Prior to officially opening the police station, Minister Cele and General Sitole visited a local taxi rank to get an understanding of the situation on the ground. The duo then proceeded to Kamhlushwa Primary School where, together with generous sponsors, donated toiletries and school shoes to needy learners.
