P484 has been identified as the important link for the community of KwaNkhombose (KwaBhoboza Area) and Somkhele under Mpukunyoni Traditional Council under Inkosi Mkhwanazi.
This road upgrade is 23.2 km long. The upgrade comprises of the first 700 metres of road which will be constructed under the construction of the KwaBhoboza interchange, which is currently under construction, and is being implemented by SANRAL. The upgrade of this road is to be done in three (3) phases.
Main Road P484 will serve as a direct link to the Siyathuthuka JP School; Uphaphazi Primary School; Ikusasalethu Secondary School; Siyaqala School; Entweni Primary School; Mlalazini Primary School; Thekelisulwazi School; Malanda Primary School; Qalangokuhle Schools; Somkhela and Vulani Clinics.
The upgrading of P484 is a type 3 road 8.5m wide and 23.1 km in length and 2 lanes with ashphalt surface. The road is to be upgraded from gravel to blacktop standards to provide a new link between KwaBhoboza and Somkhele at an estimated total cost of R357.52 million.
As at the end of 2017/18 financial year the expenditure of R36.5 million has been spent for the upgrade of P484. A budget of R128 million has been required for the 2018/19 financial year. This project is anticipated to be successfully completed by the end of the 2020/21 financial year depending on the availability of budget and is anticipated to create a total of 167 job opportunities and 12099 person days. Construction of layerworks on km 0.9 to km 4.1 will be completed in the 2018/19 financial year.
