UMzinto River Bridge
UMzinto River Bridge is located between Nhlohleni and Phelindaba areas under Umdoni Local Municipality in the Ugu District. The bridge assists the Nhlohleni and Phelindaba communities to safely cross uMzinto River and access public amenities.
This project comprised of the demolition of two existing bridge deck spans and one pier which were damaged during the floods of June 2008. A new foundation and pier as well as new precast beams, a deck slab and balustrades were constructed.
Construction commenced in August 2010 and was successfully completed in July 2011 at a total cost of R13.3 million. A number of job opportunities were created for locals during the construction of this bridge.
