Transnational and Cross Border Crimes halted through Operation Usalama VI
KIMBERLEY – A multi-disciplinary approach Crime Prevention Operation dubbed Usalama VI, yielded much-desired results when police arrested suspects involved in various criminal activities.
The operational focus was to address Transnational Cross Border Crimes to curb crimes on Ports of Entries of Nakop and Vioolsdrift. The operation kicked started with a bang on 30 October and was wrapped up on Monday, 04 November 2019. Various suspects were arrested in Namakwa, ZF Mgcawu and John Taolo Gaetsewe Clusters.
Fifteen suspects aged between 24 and 56 were arrested near KleinSee subsequent to be found busy with illegal mining. Mining implements and gravel containing diamonds found in their possession were confiscated.
Drugs worth more than R38 000 were confiscated and suspects are behind bars and are facing charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. Four suspects from Upington, Calvinia, Springbok and Paballelo respectively were arrested in this regard.
R44 600-00 worth Afzal illicit flavours were confiscated subsequent to be found in two tuck-shops in Rosedale near Upington.
More than 280 litres concoction or home-brewed alcohol was confiscated in Postmasburg and the brewers were issued with fines.
Two trucks were also confiscated during static roadblock near Kathu after they were found to be driving with false license discs. Another two exported vehicles were confiscated in Springbok.
Police in Galeshewe confiscated copper cable weighing 82.0 Kg, with an estimated street value of R5300. Copper cable was found in a house in Galeshwe.
The suspects are respectively expected to appear before magistrate’s Courts soon.
The Northern Cape Police Management applauded all officials who were involved in the Operation Usalama VI, by ensuring that no stone was left unturned during the operation.
