KWAZULU-NATAL – Kerissa Pillay (31) and her accomplice Mervin Dennis (52) briefly appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Thursday facing charges of fraud and corruption.
Pillay and Dennis allegedly submitted fraudulent claims to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport. It is alleged that they claimed an amount of R1.8 million for the road construction that was never done in the Umzikhulu area in 2013.
Pillay and Dennis were arrested by Hawks members from the Durban Serious Corruption Investigation unit on Wednesday for fraud and corruption. The pair were granted R5000 bail pending their next court appearance on 15 October 2020. The investigation is still ongoing and additional arrests have not been ruled out.
