Scenes of jubilation were witnessed today as premier Sihle Zikalala opens M4 Ruth first to traffic after six months of closure
KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala together with the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Bheki Ntuli, and Ethekwini Municipality Mayor, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda today Friday, 12 June 2020, officially re-opened M4 Ruth First Highway to traffic.
The opening of this major economic corridor linking Durban, Umhlanga, King Shaka International Airport, and Ballito, will improve economic activities and it also coincides with the activities of Alert Level 3, which includes the opening of domestic flights and other key economic activities.
The M4 Ruth First Highway has been closed for six months after the road was washed away during heavy rainfall. The repair of the project was further delayed by the National Lockdown period. The repair of this project was at a value of 45 Million Rand, with six emerging contractors benefiting.
